All Rec Leagues are free to make their own rules. They do not have to follow the ASA or USSSA. Every Rec league modifies some rules to fit their own league's structure etc.
Now this is my opinion:
There is no way we are going to stop allowing Home Runs! Home Runs have been part of Softball, since the beginning.
And as far as the 1-1 count with no courtesy foul, a bad strike call from an ump and it takes the bat right out of your hands. This rule must have been written after quite a few drinks at the end of the night because for a Rec league, this rule is just plain dumb.
Just hit the ball. is about 4" in Diameter. if you can't hit it in ONE pitch. then .... Well I don't have to go there. I think it should start with a 3-2 count !
I'm all for the 1-1 count. Slow pitch softball is to hit the ball, and to pitch strikes. The 1-1 count makes a pitcher throw better pitches right away which make for more hitting and a better game. So for 2009 bring on the 1-1 count
I was not going to say anything, but you guys have blinders on and need to see the other reason why a 1 and 1 count is being used. The inception of this rule came about for two reasons, yes one reason was to keep games moving at a steady pace, but the real reason was to give the pitcher an advantage over the batter. In slow pitch softball the ball is just lobbed over the plate, with that being said, who in their right mind could not hit a ball just floating straight at them. with that in mind, the pitcher had no advantage like he does in baseball. To correct that disadvantage along comes a 1 and 1 count. If a pitcher can throw a first pitch strike and the batter has discipline at the plate and takes the first pitch, now the pitcher has an advantage and the batter is on his heels, but so as to not put the batter at a total disadvantage, the third strike foul ball being allowed, also known as a waste pitch, was put in place as part of the 1 and 1 count, make sense yet? probably not to some, but if you think about it for a bit it will. OK I gave you some insight, now I am sure the bantering will start.

Just do the 3-2 . I know I can drop that 1 pitch in there. But the real question is . , Can you hit it ? No waiting for a Meatball down the Middle. R U a good enough batter to handle one pitch ? Its Challenge for both the batter & Pitcher. Play Ball !
PS , How about a 6-20 arch ? Another Challenge to put out there :)

All I ever hear is: I will shoot the Middle. You know my Grand kids can all shoot the middle too. A GOOD hitter can control doing that. But I guess if they can't hit it out of the park Then all these so called great hitter HAVE to shoot the middle. Softball is NOT all about hitting the ball. Can you also play the field ? DO you have the balls to get on the mound and take a shot ?
PS I can also shoot the Middle BUT I choose not to because I have respect for a pitcher and his Family. So stop the BS that you can shoot the middle. Play the game for what it is. A RECREATIONAL Game. I will challenge anyone to a 3-2 count with a 30 ft arch. Not these MEATBALL 6 ft archs.
After playing in the fall league 2 years in a row, I don't really mind the 1-1 count, as long as you have one or two to waste. It forces the action a little bit. The last thing I'm going up there to do is walk, but I do take pitches and wait for a good one to hit. It's not as big a deal as most people make it out to be, it just forces you to be a little more aggressive at the plate.
