Friendship Baptist Church staved off elimination by beating Local 442 21-13 in game 2 of the E division finals. FBC's bats heated up after the poor performance in game 1 as they led from start to finish. Local's poor defense contributed to the high run total for FBC, but the top of the order came through in big spots all game long. Friendship led 11-0 after 2 innings and looked like they were going to cruise to victory. But the patient hitters for Local 442 kept fighting and came within 16-13 heading into the bottom of the 6th. FBC came back with 5 in the bottom of the 6th to put the game away.
It's "deja vu all over again" as game 3 is Wednesday night at 6:00 on Toro 1 in a repeat of last year's exciting final series!
Well sports fans, it doesn't get any better than this; a one game showdown for all the E-Division marbles that will cap off the 2007 Torrington Softball season. It's time to find out if the age old adage that "good pitching always beats good hitting" is accurate. Tonight, the church-goers trot out Barry Tapley, who as a youngster played ball with Jesus himself, to face the coppers starter (help with a name here?!) in a battle of the top 2 pitchers in the E Division. FBC hopes to keep their bats red hot and avenge last year's loss to 5-O in the finals. The action gets under way at 6:00pm at Toro 1. See you there!!
Hopefully the fans will turn out in full force for tonight's season finale. Not that it matters, but the score was 5-1 in game 3 last year.
